1. (cambiar)
a. to alter
Han alterado el horario del autobús, y ahora no sé cuándo vendrá.They have altered the bus schedule, and now I don't know when it's coming.
b. to change
Alguien ha debido de alterar los resultados de la encuesta porque ayer eran diferentes.Someone must have changed the results of the survey because yesterday they were different.
c. to modify

d. to distort

b. to spoil
Un huevo en mal estado alteró toda la masa, así que tuve que tirarla.A bad egg spoiled the dough, so I had to throw it away.

Lucía alteró a su madre con la noticia del suspenso.Lucia upset her mother with the news of her failing grade.
b. to disrupt
La nueva prueba aportada en el juicio alteró el veredicto.The new evidence provided in court disrupted the verdict.
c. to disturb
El chico nuevo alteró la tranquilidad de la clase.The new student disturbed the tranquility of the classroom.
alterarse
Un verbo pronominal siempre usa un pronombre reflexivo. (p. ej. Te ves cansado.).
La situación me está alterando y por eso me estoy poniendo tan agresivo.The situation is getting me agitated and that's why I'm getting so aggressive.
b. to get flustered
Mi hermano no dejaba de silbar y me estaba alterando.My brother wouldn't stop whistling and I was getting flustered.
